I remember reading somewhere that they made an ea-81 convertible. I think i even saw pics. Do any of our vintage subaru experts have any info on this car? Please help me out as we're having a bit of a debate about it here at the dealership. ;)

I have seen it. RX bodystyle convertible. I'm pretty sure it wasn't in a dream or hallucination.

Yeah Mike there were something like 200 made (all by an aftermarket co.). They were to commemorate the 15th year of US sales or something like that. I think they are 83s. There is actually one somewhere around Lancaster. I saw it on Centerville Rd a couple times. Its a 2 door coupe with the top cut off. I think they were all fwd cars but not positive. You can come across 1 or so a year on ebay.

Check out the Ultimate Subaru Website. Someone on there has a conv. they just changed locations and I couldn't pull it up on the search engine for the old one.

It is the engine code for the 1.8L OHV engine in the Brat, hatchback and early 80's cars. The Loyale (square style) is the ea-82 (unless its an XT6 then its an ER-27

if one of them has appeared for sale on ebay, try searching completed auctions

i know that FHI made a convertible impreza concept, but it never went to press. i'd like to see a pic of the ea-81 convertible if you find it, and i'd be interested to see the ea-82 RX style convertible..

Thank you for the link. We had a nice heated discussion about whether or not that qualified as a true subaru convertible. It was fun.

It sold at dealers and came with a factory warranty. That should be enough.

Well no but from what I've heard there was one made for each dealer to celebrate the anniversary. There was never an american aftermarket company that you could send a Subie too for an aftermarket top removal. I've heard there was a company in I think Australia that made XT conv but it is probably the same company that makes the duel turbo police unit SVXs. I'm sure you could call Subaru and ask.;)
