A important achievement has been made. I have found a new available replacement shock for the SVX. The strut is a KYB GR-2. Part Numbers are.
Lfront 233023 69.95 from summit
Rfront 233022 69.95 from summit
Rear 341065 39.95 from summit
These are listed as subaru Loyale shocks/struts.
some of you are thinking now yeah right that wont fit. But i did My homework. i even cross referenced the OE strut PN's with www.subaruparts.com THEY ARE THE SAME EVEN OE!

This update was brought to you by Paul (rev_hard) and Eric (Blonde_Man)
we were up till 5:30 am researching this

Keep SVX'n!

Paul,

Please post the OE part #'s you found to be common. I would like to try to do some research to see if I can verify this with part manual.
Thanks
PS. What is the update on the bumper purchase?

Is that a complete strut or a cartridge replacement like the Koni Setup?

Also.. not to start any evil rumors, but if this is true, wouldn't Loyale struts by other companies fit too?

You would think so. That is why I want to find out for sure. That would open up a lot of options for us. I still skeptical though. Just too good to be true.

goto
http://www.subaruparts.com/accessories.php?
click on the SVX and the Loyale

Then goto
http://webepc.com/cgi-bin/sewse?/home/httpd/cmm/scripts/epc10.cmm+kyb
again the SVX and Loyale

you honestly have to see this for yourself. :) Its kinda sad. No wonder we have problems with our shocks. The loyale 4wd wagon is a 1000lbs lighter

the subaru pn's are
20311PA011
20360PA000

The Parts Quick Reference Guide 1985-1998 lists 20311PA011, 20360PA000 as SVX struts. There are 54 different PN for various Leone/Loyale shock absorbers. They all start with 21 and have GA as the letters in the middle. Would SOA carry the same part under different numbers? The air filters for the SVX and Legacy are both listed as 16546AA020.

i was looking at the 1992 subaru loyale wagon 4wd if this helps....

http://www.carparts.com also lists the KYB GR-2s for the SVX, but only '92 and '93. However, they do list an oem replacement made by Gabriel, PN 341(2,3,4)SP, for all years of the SVX, and a different Loyale oem replacement made by Gabriel, PN 186(7,8,9)SP. Still seems fishy to me, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I only checked my car...
92 LSL

Are the shocks different for other SVX's from the factory?

Then why do Gabriel and KYB list them as the same PN?
Not to mention the fact i got the same PN from subaruparts.com....

Maybe i need to take a tripp to the dealer and have a look at the 2.........

next step.. VISUAL CONFERMATION....

They may be the same strut listed under differnt numbers. I only know the Suaru parts book lists them under different numbers, and I know that the air filter for the SVX and Legacy, which I know are the same, are listed under the same number.

I agree "Subaru" is not listing the parts as the same items. Has anyone tried to contact Gabriel or KYB as to why "they" list the parts under the same #?

If you take "tripp" to the dealer, don't talk to her about anything incriminating. We all know what happened to Monica when "tripp" spilled the beans about her. :)

If these struts will fit, I'll take four from KYB. I had that brand on my 'stang, and it was one tight car!

The Koni's would be my ideal, but I have two problems with putting these struts on:
1.) It would require cutting, and I shudder any time I think of cutting my baby. Would the KYBs be the same deal?
2.) The price. Geez, I've paid less for entire cars before!

How would they go on? Are they adjustable at all? These are the things I'd need to find out before committing to them.

*designed for high performance handling and a smooth comfortable ride
*Velocity-sensitive valving automatically adjusts to different road conditions
*patented internal valve
*Non-adjustable

(notes stolen from summit catalog)

No they would be a true bolt on no cutting welding etc.

I may just buy one of each front and rear to see if they fit. If they dont.... I'll send them back to Summit......

Despite the unadjustability of the struts, I'd still like to get them. I'll check out if Summit Racing has a website to order from.

Rev Hard,

Thanks to you & Eric for researching the struts.I have a question. Say I'm an SVX owner and I'm looking to buy struts. I come to this site. How do I search for and find your post?

OK, I'm a little slow - I usually hang out in the babbling room. Are the KYB's a definite no-cut replacement shock for the '92 SVX?

Has there ever been any confirmation (visual) on the struts?

Are they the same?

Me too, me too! I wanna know. It's probably my next purchase after the Reading ride. :D

I went ahead and ordered these struts. They do not fit. They are definitely made for the Loyale. They are very small.
Even Legacy struts are bigger. Oh well. I will probably save up for the Aragosta coilovers.
I can take a picture of them before I send them back if anyone wants to see what they look like.

The Legacy/Impreza kyb struts will work with a little modification. The front sway bar attaches to the strut so a bracket must be made to connect the bar to the strut chassis somehow w/o welding on it. The front and rear spindle must be shaved to be made about 2mm narrower too. Hope this helps. Greg
