I need help. I've had my '92 for 2 years and I'm on my 3rd alternator (the first "original" one was replaced when Sears told me my charging system was weak - I relpaced it with a $100 cheapie. It lasted less than a year and I ended up stranded on Rt.80 when my bettery died amidst a brilliant display of dashboard warning lights. I replaced the cheapie with a $300 model and things were OK. Feeling frisky, I did the alternator wiring upgrade. Now it seems that my voltage regulator has gone haywire. The dashboard warning lights come and go, flicker and pulsate - my headlights brighten and dim, etc. the higher the RPM, the brighter the lights. If this is a bad voltage regulator, how do I replace it? Is it another $100+ part? Can I do it myself?
(I have basic skills & tools). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.
