So, my next question is, when will we see the Yahoo people start to filter over here? Should we have an official open house? I know I am still working on the look of the board, but heck.. I dealership opens while the shop is still being built. Lets go! Do we need to hold a contest?

I see 27 registered members. Dont make me think that I put four hard drives in this server just for a few dozen people. I built it, abuse it! Can you as users feel any speed difference from Yahoo?

Just curoius

The speed is great - even through my 56K, and it is so nice to not have to click back and forth 347 times and wait 10 seconds each time for loading just to follow one stupid thread. I like the news section too.

Both Suby and I dropped "hints" just the other night. It was like 10 minutes later, the system went down for maintenance (bad timing). Yesterday, was it just me, or was the system down for maintenance most of the "mid day? I don't mind promoting, but, I wanna make sure there's something there when I send them over. And, I don't mind the "rubble" of the work, if everyone can still see the "good stuff" on the showroom floor.

I think a "Grand Opening" is a good idea. I'm surprised more haven't been in to look around. After the grand opening (and, I think it should be announced, heavily, in the I-club, the KC site, Yahoo, and SVXtreme. I'd really like for this to be the UNIFYING home for SVXers.

Again, we need to approach it as not being competitive at all. We're not trying to "steal" anyone's members, nor be "superior" we just want everyone in one place. Strength in numbers, as they say.

By the way, the speed is great, and it's still lookin' good.

A lot of it is just force of habit. I'm used to checking in on the Yahoo site, and forget about the "new clubhouse" sometimes.
The more time I spend here, the more comfortable it feels - I think that will hold true for others.
The big kicker will be when folks like Aredub come over "full-time" (don't get a big head Randy). I think everyone will want to be where the action is.

Yea, on wednesday night from 10pm to 2am MST I had to take the server off-line for the final hardware modifications. I do not expect to have any other outages at this time. If so, I will schedule them and post it in the news area. All the rest of the configuration and changes can be made while live.

I'll definitely be "where the action is," but, I really want it to be here. I don't think my "full time" participation is going to be the make or break point. If it were only true, I'd just "order" everyone to make the switch :). But, as I've said, it has to be approached in a non-competitive spirit and presented as a unification spot for the entire SVX community . . . created of the SVXer, by the SVXer, for the SVXer (or something like that) :D

" . . . so help me God".

Randy, the point I'm making is that right now the "mega-posters" like yourself (I'll dig a hole for myself if you give me a shovel) are mostly on the Yahoo site.
When you and others of your kind ( :) ) make this your SVX base of operations, the rest will naturally follow.
I think it's obvious that as comfortable and familiar as the Yahoo site is (warts and all), we've come to the point where we've just outgrown it.

Made it to China yet? :) Truth is, I can't afford another message board on my rounds. Once this is up and running, I'm planning on making it my exclusive home. I can't continue to do Yahoo, KC, I-Club, the occasional visit to YahooUK and here. My work has been suffering-- I am truly an addict and need to do something about it. So, I'll focus on one and let the rest (well, I'll try) go.

Yes, it is addictive - and my work is also suffering. I start the days with the best intentions, wind up sneaking a peek at what's going on here and there and before I know it I'm wrapped up in two or three threads.
So yeah, whenever the "grand opening" is, I'll try to do the same.

Yes, exactly the same symptoms here. Perhaps we can start a clinic . . . at Snowshoe :)

I can see it now . . . the first meeting of "SVXers Anonymous"

I can imagine the stories . . .

I am trying to stay away from the Yahoo board. There is no way I can find the time to read all of the posts.I used to read every one but now I just scan over them and look at what I might be interested in.

Well, we seem to be holding at 29 members. Any clue as to when and who the 100th one will be? And where is Eddycat2000?

Will we have "chat" up pretty soon? I'd like to have that function available for the "Grand Opening." That way, when we schedule the "GO," we can "chat up" the people who arrive. We can answer questions, and build general interest. When does everyone want to have the "GO." It would be good to promote it for, at least, a week. Two weeks would be even better. Thoughts?

I had originally responded to a poll about this with April 1, but it seems pointless to wait that long now.
I say we go with no later then mid-March (St. Paddy's Day?).

So, how's 'bout the 15th? That's a Thursday. For some reason, activity seems good on Thursday nights. Things slow down (people go out) on Fri and Sat. Also, some people, like Larryiii, sign off for the weekend on Friday afternoons.

That's cool with me. I can't wait, now - it seems like I've already made the switch mentally.

(yeah, I know - not a huge leap for me ;) )

im down for the switch whenever. as some of you may or may not have noticed i put the front bumper idea strictly on this site for a reason.. Easier to track. once someone makes a deal of it on yahoo they allmost kinda have to come over for a visit. Trickery i know but its my ball so i get to play the game ;)

Aredubjay

Yeah, you're right. You don't wanna show off your balls to just ANYBODY. :)

Actually, one of the guys here in the Department has done work on "internet addiction".

Maybe we need a 12-step program. I'm spending way too much time, too. But, this site should help. Much easier to keep track of.

Randy, if you "disappear" from Yoohoo, eventually someone will start asking questions - that would be a good time to slip in some hints.;)

On my archeological expedition in the bowels of the Network, I decided this thread would be appropriate to ask,

What makes a member become inactive? I noticed only about a third of members are active, about 1,100..... and I honestly don't recall seeing postings from even a third of that many different names since I've been here. Have that many people sold out or crashed their cars?

When I left the network for about 2 years, I came back to find that my user name was gone. I believe it's if you don't log in for a certain period of time. I had almost 7000 posts before! Yikes!

People sell their cars, or they keep them but suddenly life has newer, more interesting things to occupy them....
I get active for a while and then may not post or even visit the site for months. The active core has changed over the years as well as the demographics. Back when the club started, SVXs were relatively current vehicles and still somewhat expensive to buy. Now that they have some age and miles, the entry fee has lowered quite a bit, along with the average age of owners - although the cost of ownership has risen.
It is sad to see old members fade away. I wonder whatever happened to some of them too.

Indeed. This place was totally different 8 years ago.

So what im basically hearing is that broker, more bedraggled people now own SVX's and account for most of the newer members here?:lol:

I can't believe you would call us that!

Wow! This is an old post! The main core of members hasn't changed much, but the rest of the membership has. :) I think everyone here has gotten older!
